Amnesty International is a non-governmental organization founded in 1961. Amnesty International defends human rights throughout the world by denouncing its violations. It aims to be neutral and non-partisan. To do this, the association relies mainly on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948. It received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1977.
How can it help you?
Amnesty International operates on the credo know, to make known, to stop (investigate, alert, act). Therefore, an essential part of its work is to seek out reliable, self-verified information to report on the violation of a right. At the end of its research, Amnesty seeks to mobilize public opinion in order to put an end to the violations it has observed.
Investigate
Amnesty International's research teams regularly go to the field to investigate and collect evidence to alert people to human rights violations.
Alert
Once the investigation is complete, Amnesty International writes and publishes reports, press releases, and recommendations to alert the media and the public to the violations. The aim is then to put pressure on public institutions to stop the violations.
Act
Finally, Amnesty International carries out advocacy work. To do this, it mobilizes citizens by signing petitions. The more signatures we receive, the greater our influence. When a situation is critical and urgent, Amnesty International strengthens its advocacy work by writing mass letters to leaders demanding they stop the violation.
